Travabled is a new Croatian startup that is trying to raise money on the crowdfunding site Indiegogo for their global travel and booking service, a Airbnb or Booking.com for people with disabilities. Beside the actual booking tailored to its key audience, Travabled would give travelers and their families and partners lots of information on the accessibillity of venues, locations etc. It was actually the inaccessibility of Madame Toussad’s in Amsterdam that made cofounder Stipe Splivalo come up for the idea for Travabled, due to his own use of a wheelchair.
Large (& Positive) Market
The team wants to create a world for “travel without barriers” and is currently in beta. Stipe confirmed for Netocratic that Croatia is going to be their test market due to the ability to have local support as well as knowledge and experience both with the local community as well as local travel and tourism industry. Travabled goal on the other hand is serving a $13,5 billion yearly market for travelers with disabilities. In fact, $3.3 billion is spent annually by travelers with disabilities on travel by plan.
The team says that people with disabilities want to live independently and move freely as well as go on business trips, but there is no service that lets them do it easily, by finding accessible accommodations around the world as well as having a database of accessible places when traveling in general.
What Will Travabled Offer
Their revenue model on the other hand is going to be based on the standards of the online tourism industry: advertising, affiliate revenues and mobile app sales. Travabled will be both a travel website similar to Booking.com, but also a specialized mobile app. Users will be able to add accessible places as they travel. The team beside Stipe is made out of content lead Tomislav Križić and business development lead Petar Pavić (who has a lot of experience in the Croatian media industry, being an ex-director of the leading Croatian publishing company’s digital arm) – both cofounders. Tamiko Franklin joins the team as a financial and legal advisor. How will Travabled work:

Travabled sounds like a good idea and a good business and takes seconds to understand, which will be a plus when looking for funding. The team decided to look for their first financing on Indiegogo, looking for $96,000 to be spent on content and development. Due to the project’s positive message, it has a chance to make the its mark and its goal. You can find more information on Travabled’s official website, and fund them on Indiegogo!
