Croatian Skiipi And Slovenian CubeSensors To Appear At Web Summit In Dublin This Fall

Two regional startups, Croatian Skiipi and Slovenian CubeSensors will have the opportunity to present themselves to a large number of foreign visitors and investors at this year's Web Summit which is taking place in Dublin form 30th to 31st of October. Europe's largest startup event will bring together more than seven thousand attendees, while the startups will have the opportunity to participate in a PITCH competition (presented by box) where they will compete for a top prize - 500,000 euros.

Every time an entrepreneur pitches such plan for his startup to me (and it happens quite frequently in Central Europe), I try hard to hide my disappointment. I am writing this post from Israel, where I am meeting with local entrepreneurs to hear their pitches and get a better feel for the local startup scene. After listening to several entrepreneurs this week, the lack of ambition of our region became even more striking. How come that there are so many entrepreneurs in Israel who treat their home market as a playground to test their product before its real launch in the United States, while our entrepreneurs have a hard time dreaming beyond Prague?

Pirates On Shore: Meet the Local Startup ‘Pirates’ in Sofia!

Founders of Box, Nest, Care.com, AOL CEO Tim Armstrong Join Web Summit Lineup

Aaron Levie, the 27-year-old founder and CEO of cloud storage startup Box, will join the Web Summit lineup this year. Levie started Box when he was just 19, quitting college to pursue the venture that has since raised nearly $500m and is rumored to IPO in 2014. Levie will also judge the finals of the Summit’s startup event PITCH, which has a prize fund of €500,000.
