The SparkMe startup competition is focused on innovation, team diversity, the power of the idea, the startups’ potential to grow and the implementation strategy. Participating in the competition enables startup founders to have access to advisers, mentors, workshops and a network of investors, industry experts and serial entrepreneurs. All participants will receive feedback from the judges.

Who can apply?

Startups founded after April 2012 with less than $2.5 million in funding are eligible to apply, regardless of where they are registered. As it was said before, applications need to be submitted by September 10, 2013 at 23:59:59 UTC. The project description must contain team members, a description of the problem that is being solved, technical solution, target market and several screenshots of the application from a computer or a handheld device.

The preselection process will be held until September 12, when 10 best startup teams will be invited to present at the SparkMe conference in Hotel Splendid (Budva, Montenegro), which will be held at September 26 and 27, 2013.

What will the competition look like?

On the first day of the conference, all teams will present their projects in front of the judges. The allowed time for these pitches is 5 minutes. There will be a Q&A with the judges immediately after the presentations. After all applicants have presented, the judges will convene and choose 3 teams that will present again in the final round. The finalists’ names will be released at the cocktail at the end of the first day of the conference.

On the second conference day, each finalist will have 5 minutes to explain to the judges why they consider their project to be the best, and why they deserve to attend TechCrunch Disrupt 2014. The winner will be announced at the end of the conference.

The prize!

The prize is, as it was mentioned before, a chance to present at TechCrunch Disrupt 2014 in New York City. This includes a return ticket to NYC for two people, hotel accommodation for three days (2 people), a Start-Up Alley booth at TechCrunch Disrupt 2014 and two tickets for the three-day TechCrunch Disrupt conference.
