Bulgarian mobile app development platform Telerik is is organizing its first ever European hackathon, taking place October 17-19, 2014 in Sofia, Bulgaria. Two Croatian development companies, Infinum and PhotoPay, joined forces to create Scannr, an app that enables quick and easy scanning of the barcode on US and Canadian driver's licenses to retrieve the information embedded in. The app is primarily designed for nightclub, bar or liquor store owners and similar establishments with age restriction policies, who can now use their iOS powered devices to automatically identify minors.

Erste banka has officially unveiled a handy new, easy to use iPhone and Android app that does the queuing for you if you're headed for one of the Erste bank offices. The app was developed by the Croatian company Infinum, already renowned for their work on a number of banking apps, including Erste mBanking. The project is a result of cooperation with BeeOne, an innovation department from Erste Group, which brought you the last year's Finnovation hackathon in collaboration with Netokracija and ZIP.

At their 10th anniversary, the Slovenian high-tech company Zemanta d.o.o. announced that it was entirely acquired by Outbrain from the US, the world’s largest premium content discovery platform. The sum that Outbrain paid for Zemanta’s technology, products and team remains a business secret, and Zemanta’s co-founders Andraž Tori and Boštjan Špetič will join Outbrain. After becoming part of Outbrain Zemanta’s platform will continue to operate as a standalone product.
