YC-Funded Bellabeat Launches a Social Platform for Pregnant Women

Croatian-Slovene startup Bellabeat, ex Babywatch, launches today a social platform for pregnant women, Bellabeat Global. Bellabeat is a pregnancy tracking system that rethinks the pregnancy experience. The team believes that by giving women a way to autonomously track and share their pregnancy experience this engaging, comforting and enjoyable at-home experience will become a part of the contemporary prenatal care.

Behind Bellabeat stands a team specialized in prenatal and neonatal digital healthcare, providing expert systems for medical clinics and patients. The team has made a pregnancy home monitoring system and offers AI solutions in prenatal and neonatal care. Their vision for the future of prenatal care lies in higher patient engagement and awareness and remote patient monitoring systems.

The co-founders Urška Sršen, a sculptor by trade, and Sandro Mur, a mathematician and entrepreneur, met while Mur was working with Urška’s mother, Dr. Tanja Premru-Sršen MD, PhD – a renowned specialist of obstetrics and gynecology with special field of interest in maternal-fetal medicine, to build a home pregnancy monitoring system for clinics. In testing the product, the two quickly became aware of the sterile feel of contemporary approach to prenatal care. The wants and needs of the new generation of future moms have drastically changed with the quantified self movement and largely accessible information on the internet and mobile.

Bellabeat is entering the U.S. market and launching its new Bellabeat System and the first pregnancy social platform called Bellabeat Global. The Bellabeat Connected System enables pregnant moms to experience the joy at listening to their unborn baby’s heartbeat and share their experience with their loved ones through the social media or intimately. The Bellabeat team believes that by giving women a way to autonomously track and share their pregnancy experiences this engaging, comforting and enjoyable at-home experience will become a part of the contemporary prenatal care. With innovative sound visualization, tool for counting fetal movements, vibrant illustrations of fetal development and a tool for tracking and planning the pregnancy weight gain, the Bellabeat App allows mothers-to-be to connect with their yet unborn baby in an intimate and dynamic way and find information on how to lead a healthier pregnancy. The Bellabeat App is focused on community engagement and is including a new social platform called BellaBeat Global where pregnant women can interact amongst each other, exchange experiences and share information from the BellaBeat App to create an organized and social pregnancy diary. Through the Bellabeat Global platform, the community will engage with data visualizations and infographics based on uploaded pregnancy tracking data and find useful information about their pregnancy and health.
